My mom had a rough road. She was a brilliant, talented lady born in the 1930s who married up, only to discover her Prince Charming was deeply flawed. His insecurity zapped her of her vitality, confidence and courage. Although she was on such a difficult path, she made sure to let me know I was precious, as a joyful, authentic, optimistic, playful, expression often called after as “firecracker toes.” Her ability to impart my ok-ness in the depth of her challenges, in retrospect, as a mom myself, is astonishing. And so many moms of all types have done extraordinary things this year for furry as well as soft skinned babies. We send each of you a burst of replenishing zest.
Moms and caregivers are here to illustrate, “you belong,” “you can trust life,” “you are more than you will ever realize…”
On the days she couldn’t muster the energy to be my champion due to life’s hardships, the wonderful teachers at PS 99 and Midwood High were. And so, as a tribute to my mom, grand moms, loving aunties, teachers, mentors and dedicated caregivers, I lovingly share the following verses from Walking Flower: a blossoming of consciousness to…
Thank you, moms, for welcoming us to belong:
Belonging
I belong with you- I know so
It was told me in a dream.
And when the truth revealed itself,
My most ancient heart became serene.
My center it felt peaceful.
As I heard this truth be spoken.
For until that moment precious
The spokes of this pure heart felt incomplete and broken.
The thought of being yours
And belonging for one brief measure
Brought into my heart’s deepest core
A joy and fearfulness beyond all pleasure.
For I have never belonged
to another
From the passage of my birth.
And try as I may to give of myself
A complete connection still did thirst.
But now I know the feeling
Of being Whole,
Profound,
Complete.
As I discover the balance of my soul resides
Within the form that dwells
From the top of Your head
To the souls of Your feet.

Thank you for caregivers for helping us trust life:
Trustworthy
“Trusting another is as natural as breathing”
And if one does get hurt
It is well worth the grieving.
But perhaps you do not
Comprehend what I seek
That to trust me is not for the
fainthearted or, meek
And the sort that I mean is the
sharpest and clean.
For the kindest of intentions
Often possess hidden dimensions.
And when I state myself trustworthy
It means that I choose to enhance
your destiny.
At its simplest I state
An essential core part
Is that when you trust me
You trust you what dwells in my heart.
